Now Open: Scratch Biscuits Serves Up Southern-Style Sandwiches In Midtown Village
As of this week, Mitch Prensky of Supper has opened Scratch Biscuits in Midtown Village and the new spot is definitely up to scratch.
Outfitted with tin-tiled ceilings, a hand-painted mural by Chroma Dolls and a counter that is bound to be bustling, the quick-service spot is open all day long, peddling those flaky dough rounds in a number of Southern-style sandwiches or build-your-own options.
The shop serves up biscuits for all times of the day: Diners can start the day out with a Dixie Biscuit (egg, pimento cheese and country ham), switch it up at noon to a Brisket Biscuit (barbecue beef, horseradish mayonnaise, pickled red onions and smoked cheddar) and move on, for artery’s sake, to the vegetarian Willie Nelson (black bean chili cake, kale, avocado and creole remoulade) for dinner.
Diners can complete their meal with a biscuit-based “puddin” dessert from the changing seasonal menu — think strawberry shortcake or the Tahiti Sweetie with mango-pineapple pudding, passionfruit sauce and coconut cream.
To complete the meal, the menu also includes sides of fried biscuit “tots”, fresh-squeezed juice from SipNGlo and coffee from Rival Brothers.
There’s even a late night version for weekends — the $5 Buck Cluck sandwich with fried chicken, pimento cheese and pickles — served speakeasy style out of the back door facing Drury Street from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
And say what now? There are gluten-free versions, too? There's officially no reason not to go.

President Obama To Deliver The Keynote Address For The 106th NAACP Annual Convention In Philadelphia On Tuesday, July 14

The year 2015 is slated to welcome an array of high-profile and high-power guests — Pope Francis will visit Philadelphia in September for the World Meeting of Families, and His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet will visit Philadelphia in October.
Also visiting the City of Brotherly Love this year, the leader of the free world — President Barack Obama — will make a trip to Philadelphia to give the keynote address for the 106th NAACP Annual Convention at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Tuesday, July 14.
This year’s convention will be in town from July 11 through 15 under the theme of Pursuing Liberty in the Face of Injustice. At the convention, President Obama is expected to speak about civil and human rights challenges to delegates of the NAACP.
